Lyrics by the Weez
Since its release I have loved, loved, loved Weezer's debut album. With every new album I become more disinterested in the band, but my appreciation for "the blue album" never wanes. This record has two of my favorite things. Big, loud guitars and simple, sing-along lyrics. This record just might be the rock and roll nerd's Sergeant Pepper's.
The following are a few of my favorite lyrics from the record. I promise I will not try to ruin the songs for you, Burgess.
My Name is Jonas
The choo-choo train left right on time
A ticket costs only your mind
The driver said, 'Hey man, we go all the way'
Of course we were willing to pay
This record has quite a bit of quotes from other people. They often the best part of the song, lyrically speaking. 'Hey man, we go all the way.' i have no idea why that sticks with me, but it does.
No One Else
My girl's got a big mouth
With which she blabbers a lot
She laughs at most everything
Whether it's funny or not
And if you see her
Tell her it's over now
The World has Turned and Left Me Here
I talked for hours to your wallet photograph
And you just listened
You laughed enchanted by my intellect
Or maybe you didn't
How often do events really turn out how they are envisioned in your head? I am beginning to understand why this record connected so well with losery teenagers. It was about them...err, about me.
Buddy Holly
What's with these homies, dissing my girl?
Why do they gotta front?
I can't think of a single line of lyric that starts a song better than how "Buddy Holly" starts. Why is it funny when nerdy white men speak "street"? Why is it over 10 years of hearing this song constantly and I have yet to grow weary of it?
What's a matter babe are you feeling sick?
what's a matter, what's a matter, what's a matter you?
What's a matter babe, are you feeling blue? oh-oh!
Undone (The Sweater Song)
It's good to see you lying there in your Superman skivvies
Surf Wax America
I'm going surfin cos I don't like your face
This is one of my favorite songs on this record. Beatin' the rat race by going surfing. Someday, I will do something with the catalyst being my dislike for your face. Probably not surfing. I'll go grab some Mexican food cos I don't like your face.
Say it Ain't So
So be cool
Easily my least favorite song on this record. The drunk/absent/abusive/born-again father/step-father thing has been done to death. "So try and be cool" is that perfect little reminder though. Maybe it is just best to get away and wrestle with Jimmy.
In The Garage
I've got an electric guitar
I play my stupid songs
I write these stupid words
And I love every one
This song is the constitution of Weezer in 3 1/2 minutes. I too have an affinity for X-Men and KISS.
Holiday
We will write a postcard
To our friends and family
In free verse
Only in Dreams
You walk up to her
Ask her to dance
She says, 'Hey baby I just might take the chance'
You say, 'It's a good thing
That you float in the air (in the air)
That way there's no way
I will crush your pretty
Toenails into a thousand pieces.'
Weezer gets all smoochy on the big finale. The perfect topping for an album full of humor, intelligence, invention, wishful thinking and the 'what ifs' of possibility. Weezer is AC/DC for the kids that can read and don't have STDs. That sounds pretty fantastic to me.

You didn't ruin anything...I like it even more now. You make most things better. Except sleep.
Can't help but agree with your renditions...
